Gentoo and RE:GEN North East Celebrate Major Milestone at Cricketer’s Hill Development in Sunderland
We are proud to announce a significant milestone at Cricketer’s Hill, a sustainable new homes development in Carley Hill, Sunderland, as the final roofs have now been installed across the site, marking a major step in delivering new homes for the community.
Delivered in partnership between Gentoo and RE:GEN Group, the Cricketer’s Hill project brings 115 homes to the area, including a mix of two, three, and four-bedroom houses, two-bedroom bungalows, and two-bedroom apartments. The majority of these homes will be available for affordable rent, with a number offered through Shared Ownership and Rent to Buy schemes ensuring housing options for a wide range of residents.
A Sustainable Community Vision
The homes at Cricketer’s Hill are being built to high standards of sustainability and energy efficiency. Each property will benefit from a range of measures including air source heat pumps, smart meters, solar panels, full-fill cavity wall insulation and electric vehicle charging points. These features not only help reduce carbon emissions but also cut down on household energy costs making sustainable living more accessible.
The Cricketer’s Hill project is being delivered with a collaborative, socially responsible approach to regeneration that puts people and communities first. This model focuses on:
- Local Employment & Skills – 80% of the team involved in this project have been local to the immediate area and our Academy has been heavily involved in this build, providing apprenticeships to boost employment and invest in our future workforce.
- Community Engagement – Involving residents and stakeholders throughout the development process to ensure the homes meet real community needs.
Ali Johnson, Assistant Director of Development at Gentoo, said: “Cricketers Hill is a shining example of our commitment to building sustainable, affordable homes that meet the needs of local people. This milestone marks a significant step forward in delivering high-quality housing in Sunderland, and we’re proud to be working in partnership with RE:GEN North East to bring this vision to life. We already have many happy customers living in their homes, and we look forward to welcoming even more.”
Jonathan Horner, Managing Director of RE:GEN North East, commented: “Reaching this major construction milestone is about more than just building homes, it’s about delivering on our commitment to our partners. Cricketer’s Hill reflects RE:GEN’s approach to sustainable communities, with involvement from multiple teams, I am extremely proud of RE:GEN’s involvement in this development.”
Cricketer’s Hill is a cornerstone project in RE:GEN’s ongoing mission to regenerate and uplift communities across the North East through responsible construction, innovation, and social purpose.
