RE:GEN North West has been nominated for two Northern Housing Awards, a testament to the hard work, innovation, and dedication of our incredible teams!
We’ve been shortlisted in the Best Retrofit Project category alongside Magenta Living and in the Best Customer Experience category with Golden Lane Housing.
Ed Carroll, MD of RE:GEN North West, said: “We are so proud of all the teams who have played a part in both projects. As a growing business, it’s brilliant to celebrate the excellent delivery we’re producing. This nomination is about delivering on promises, getting results for our clients, but most importantly, it’s about enhancing lives for those in the communities where we work.
“Well done to everyone involved—looking forward to celebrating in May!”
Best Retrofit Project: Magenta Living SHDF Works
In collaboration with Magenta Living, we successfully upgraded 163 homes through an extensive retrofit programme, including the installation of air source heat pumps (ASHP), external wall insulation, PV panels, as well as improvements to cavity wall, loft insulation, and ventilation systems. We also completed the re-roofing of these homes, transforming them into energy-efficient spaces fit for the future.
One of the standout achievements of this project was the completion of four net-zero pilot homes, setting a new benchmark for sustainable housing. These homes feature high-performance insulation, ASHP, solar PV, and advanced ventilation systems, all working together to achieve ultra-low energy consumption. Real-world testing of these homes has been ongoing, providing valuable insights into energy performance, comfort, and cost savings—information that will help inform future large-scale retrofits.
The success of this project has been reflected in customer satisfaction, with an impressive 96.7% rating, highlighting our commitment to a customer-first approach and quality delivery.
With estimated annual bill savings of £500-£800 per home and carbon savings of 200-500 tonnes per year, this project not only improves the quality of life for customers but also contributes to reducing emissions and enhancing energy efficiency across the community.
Best Customer Experience: Golden Lane Housing
Shortlisted for Best Customer Experience for our work with Golden Lane Housing in delivering retrofit works to 39 assisted living homes for customers with autism and learning disabilities. Our approach prioritised stability, security, and comfort for these vulnerable customers, ensuring that the retrofitting programme was adapted to meet their needs.
From the very beginning, we worked closely with carers and family members to understand individual requirements. This led to the development of personalised working hours to avoid disrupting personal care routines, minimising the impact of intrusive works by completing them in a single day, and scheduling noisy works in advance. When possible, we prioritised external retrofit measures, such as solar PV, to avoid any internal disruptions.
Detailed, hour-by-hour plans were created to complement carer schedules, ensuring that the works were carried out respectfully and efficiently.
The feedback from carers has been overwhelmingly positive, with one carer sharing: “I cannot thank the team enough. They have been brilliant – so helpful, polite, and just got on with the works.”
Another carer expressed: “It’s been a very good experience, it’s not caused any issues or problems with our tenants – which is important when you have special needs. [Tenants have] enjoyed looking out of the window to see what’s been going on, it’s brightened their day up…[Site teams] have been very considerate.”
