On 28th July we were delighted to launch the first iteration of our exclusive careers event in partnership with the Byker Community Trust, Karbon Homes and Geon, as part of the wider Byker Wall refurbishment programme. The event was a resounding success, bringing together representatives from the construction, social housing and training sectors as well as residents of the Byker Wall to discuss some of the employment opportunities within the industry.
The event itself aimed to inform, advise and recruit residents of the Byker Wall into the RE:GEN family across a multitude of blue and white collar roles ranging from Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers to Joiners and Brick Layers. The added bonus, is that as well as gaining life-long qualifications and a career, the practical application and experience can be gained on the Byker Wall project where they live.
Priding ourselves on being a ‘People First’ business, this has been the first event post-lockdown that has allowed us to get face-to-face with people on one of our ongoing projects, and begins to pave the way for us to give back to the community. It also allows us to dispel some of the myths and barriers preventing people of all ages and backgrounds gaining employment in the construction industry.
Paul Flannigan, RE:GEN Group CSR Director comments:
“Creating jobs in a particularly challenging financial environment as businesses recover from the pandemic, as well as tackling the regional and national skills shortage within the construction industry sits high on our priority list here at RE:GEN. There’s some great talent out there, so it’s incredibly rewarding and exciting to be able to do that going forward and having some of the residents of Byker becoming part of the journey with us”.
This is only the beginning, with more events scheduled following our initial success so stay tuned or get in touch if you would like to be involved.
