A £500k contract to improve parking and footpaths in five County Durham communities has been secured by a north east-based firm.
Regeneration specialists RE:GEN Group will install off-street parking and footpath crossovers in Bearpark, Brandon, Ludworth, Pittington and West Rainton, as well as rebuilding boundary walls in Gilesgate. The contract has been awarded by multi-award-winning housing association, believe housing.
The award to Gateshead-based RE:GEN Group was made after a detailed procurement exercise, with 11 organisations bidding for the work.
The improvements are expected to be completed by October this year. They will reduce congestion on narrow streets while also improving homes and communities for hundreds of believe housing customers.
Brinsley Sheridan, Partnership Director at RE:GEN Group said:
“Our commitment to believe housing on this scheme aims to revitalise the local area at a time when communities really need a boost. We will maximise social and economic benefit in County Durham through our valued and long standing relationship with the local supply chain, alongside employing a local workforce of emerging talent through our new RE:GEN Academy.”
believe housing provides more than 18,000 affordable homes in communities stretching from the North Pennines to the Durham Coast. It is investing heavily in upgrading existing homes alongside an ambitious new-build programme.
Ruth Dent, Director of Assets and Compliance at believe housing said:
“These improvements are intended to tackle some of the issues that customers really care about in their community; parking being probably the number one. They should make everyday living a little better for hundreds of customers. I can’t wait to see the finished results.”
